The Green Party will be holding their state convention in St. Cloud on Saturday. Spokesman Brandon Long says they have five candidates running for president. Their 2012 candidate Jill Stein is the presumptive nominee. Long says the Green Party has four pillars for their platform.
“Nonviolent democracy, ecological wisdom, And social economic justice. So those are our guiding principles.”
Long says some have called their party the “Democratic-light” party. But, he says there’s at least one big difference.
“One of the most defining features of the green party is that we don’t accept corporate or union money. We don’t even accept organizational money. Because most Americans feel, that money is corrupting. And we feel that we only want to represent individual people.”
Long says their highest ranking elected official in Minnesota right now is a member of the Minneapolis city council. There are five Green Party candidates running for president, with the presumptive nominee their 2012 candidate Jill Stein.
The state convention is Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the St. Cloud Public Library. The Green Party’s national convention starts August 4th in Houston.
