Gophers and Vikings and Mavericks...what a weekend

Oct 20, 2014 -- 5:53am

The weekend of sports was awesome with College Hockey...College Football and the NFL and NHL Hockey all available for your viewing pleasure.  Mavs won friday night in both Football and Hockey with DVR's you could see the football game at Blakeslee and come home and watch the Mav's win at UMD...then later you could watch the replay of The Wild out west.  Saturday afternoon you could watch the Gophers dominate the second half and come from behind to upend the Boilermakers and catch the rematch of the Mavs/Bulldogs either live at Verizon or see my mug on TV Saturday night. Sunday the Vikings defense was pretty solid til the final drive...and Teddy Bridgewater struggled to stay standing and complete meaningful passes as the team lost at Buffalo. The Wild played another low scoring game out west scoring just 1 goal on 41 shots and lost a 2-1 game.  The Wild are playing pretty well early on and when the offense comes around...WATCH OUT. Not a bad weekend!

I'm a Bachelor this weekend

Oct 17, 2014 -- 5:27am

My wife Anne will be out of town this weekend taking care of her Brother who is receiving treatment for Cancer in Rochester...so I am a Bachelor for the next 4 days.  I have some serious plans to PARTY.  Today: I work and then plan on prepping for the Mavs vs the Bulldogs by watching the two teams on Fox Sports North. Tomorrow I have to work at the school as we are going to be painting "The Tunnel" between St Peter and Pauls and Fitzgerald Middle School.  Then it's downtown for the first home hockey game of the year at Verizon Wireless Center.  Sunday it's ALL FOOTBALL ALL THE TIME.  Monday I have to work and Anne will be home Monday Night.

Now that I think of it...my weekend would be exactly the same one way or another.  Except when I point out something that I see on TV there will be no one there to agree with my AWESOME ANALYSIS.

Regular Season Football Comes to an End Tonight

Oct 15, 2014 -- 5:54am

It's MEA Wednesday...which means the final regular season football games are tonight.  Conference title will be decided...and the winners will be the Champs of all time.  Next season District Football scheduling will begin.  So if your school wins a title tonight...congrats...you are the Forever Conference Champions.  Also I am aware that it isn't MEA anymore.  But sorry...it was MEA when I was in High School 34 years ago...and it will be MEA for a long time to come.  It's like all tissues aren't kleenex...but that's what we call them.  So get over it.

The Wild DOMINATED

Oct 10, 2014 -- 5:51am

Watched the Maverick football team as a warm-up to face-off last night.  The Mavericks had the game in hand by the time the puck dropped at the Xcel Center last night.  Zach Parise and Ryan Suter set the tone as the WILD TOOK APART THE AVS.  5-0 doesn't do the game justice....the game seemed like it was 10-0 after the most amazing 2nd period this team has played in a long time.  The AV's are know for their team speed and they looked like the were old and slow compared to the WILD.  It will be interesting to see the rematch Saturday in Colorado. I can't imagine that The WILD will push around Colorado the way they did last night...but maybe the AV's players have been "Chillin" in Colorado and might be very "Relaxed" if you know what I mean. Let's have the Wild win the game...then they can take the AV's to Taco Bell after the game.  Denver is "The mile HIGH city" you know.

Boy Do We Miss Chad Greenway

Oct 03, 2014 -- 5:35am

The Minnesota Vikings Defense has given up too many easy touchdowns the last 2 weeks and the logical explanation is Chad Greenway isn't on the field. The linebacker is out with broken ribs and a broken hand.  The Vikings are 1-1 in the 2 games since his injury...but allowed 2 really easy scores last week vs Atlanta and 3 easy touchdowns last night vs Green Bay.

Offensively the Vikings offensive line was terrible...after playing so well last week. The team couldn't run the ball at all...and threw it 44 times with their 3rd string quarterback at the helm in the rain.  That's a recipe for disaster.  Christian Ponder will be destroyed today by all of the haters...but he is not the reason the team lost.  Did he play fantastic? NO. Terrible? NO.  He was average at best...2 Interceptions...1 his fault...1 not...at least 5 drops by his receivers on catchable balls...and probably 5 poor throws.

Packer fans are feeling pretty good right now...and that's fine...I'll just challenge them to this:  When the Packers come to Minnesota...Aaron Rogers sits....Matt Flynn sits...Lacy sits....Cobb sits...plus your starting right guard sits. How do you think your team will do?  Thats was the Vikings faced last night. Starting Qb...BackUp Qb...Pro Bowl Running Back...Pro Bowl Tight end..and starting Right Guard all did not play.  5 out of 11 starters. Good Luck
