Where Did Last Night Come From?

Jul 23, 2014 -- 5:50am

So yesterday afternoon wasn't as bad as Monday afternoon...but it was still awfully warm and humid.  But sometime between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. the humidity started to disappear and boy what a beautiful night it was.  Clear skies and cool breezes...and falling temps.  I got up this morning and when I stepped outside to come to the KTOE Studios it was 60 degrees...could've slept with the windows OPEN.  If tonight is a recap of last night...there is a boat in my driveway...that is gonna be in Lake  Washington or Madison Lake.

IT's Gonna Get July Hot

Jul 21, 2014 -- 5:41am

So last week was NOT July weather...and today WILL BE.  Heat index warnings of over 100 degrees.  Many people don't think that's a bad thing...but for those of us who do physical labor...either outdoors or in non-Air Conditioned buildings...it is not a good thing.  Gonna sweat today...glad I wore a white shirt.  It's important to drink water thru-out the day...whether you feel thirsty or not.  Make sure and have the kids drink a  bunch today as well...and don't fortget the pets.  Sounds like tomorrow and the rest of the week won't be so bad...but still will feel like July in Minnesota.

Hoping For Something Different This Year

Jul 11, 2014 -- 5:54am

I am hoping for a DRY PARADE tomorrow following last years washout.  As you may recall the skies opened up just as the parade began last year...meaning NO OPEN convertible...meaning No Miss Mankato on the back seat...meaning someone needed to WALK...meaning DON DROVE...meaning DAN WALKED...meaning wet clothes...meaning wet UNDERWEAR...meaning wet TOOTSIE ROLLS...meaning smaller crowds...meaning....well you get the point.

We want SUNSHINE and RAINBOWS...and BUTTERFLIES.  I'm DRIVING...if it rains...I will be driving the KIA...if not...the convertible.

North Mankato Fun Days BEGINS

Jul 10, 2014 -- 5:48am

North Mankato Fun Days was a BIG DEAL when is was a kid...my Grandma and Grandpa  used to live on Range St in lower North and always bought the ride strips so we could go on a ton of rides.  As a kid that's all that mattered.  I could look out their picture window and see all of the rides lit up at night. I may have told this story before but one of my most fond memories is the time Grandpa Evans talked me into riding the Ferris Wheel with him...even though he was "Frightened to Death of it".  The entire ride he told me how much it scared him...and the more he said...the more it gripped the handle bar.  We stopped at the top as they loaded at the bottom and as the car rocked it got more nerve racking.  When we got off the ride my legs were shaking and I was sweating up a storm. Many years later I relayed the story to my Uncle Kurt and found out then that Grandpa used to do that to ALL OF THE KIDS.  He LOVED THE FERRIS WHEEL. And I LOVED MY GRANDPA.

Sopping Wet

Jul 08, 2014 -- 5:55am

Yesterday was the worst work day of the summer for heat and humidity.  I spent the day stripping hallway floors with an autoscrubber putting water down...stripping the old wax off and sucking it up...and I was drenched.  There was no air movement in the hallways...so I spent the day in dank...heavy...stale air.  Not a great way to get stuff done.

Then around 6 last night it looked as tho we were in for a storm...but the heavy weather passed to the north and east of Mankato...but with the cold front gone...the humidity disappeared and we are expecting cooler weather today.  I have no problem with that.

This Past Weekend

Jul 07, 2014 -- 7:16am

I had a great time at the St Peter Fourth of July Parade friday...and want to congratulate Stunt and whoever made the call on starting the fireworks early friday night.  We got out of the park before the rain fell..which would have been right at the end of the show.  After that we ordered pizza from a local pizzeria and the guy brought the order...minus the PIZZA...he said "Huh I've never done THAT before."

Saturday we went to dinner for my sister and her husbands 39th anniversary...then had a bonfire at 9:30...when the beer was finished and I was tired...it was 3:00 A.M. Sunday we took the boat out on a very busy Duck Lake...caught a few fish...but the best part was we could open the motor up for the first time this season...and we did. It's fun to go from one side of the lake to the other in a couple minutes...rather than puttering around. I hope the lakes go back to normal water levels soon so that we can do some boating on Madison and Washington as well.
