Morrow Isn't Optomistic

KTOE caught up with St. Peter’s Terry Morrow yesterday as he was getting ready for the opening day of the Legislature. Given the current political equation, he believes more cuts are certain - but will that include schools?

“I’m not sure that I agree with the same percentage across the board, for all areas of spending. I think that it’s still incumbent upon us . . . to set priorities. I hear loud and clear that K-12 education is a priority, so while I think the cuts that we’re looking at are deep, I’m not sure that a uniform percentage across the board is the way to go.”

As for the possibility of new sources of revenue: “I think at this point the message has been clear that the Governor is not willing to have any discussions on that front. It will be interesting, though, to see how Minnesotans feel about the cuts as they’re being discussed over the next few weeks.”

Morrow does say, the greater Mankato area is gaining visibility at the Capitol – in fact,  next Thursday is Greater Mankato Day at the Capitol.
