Dispute at Central High

Mankato police say they’re still trying to figure out what happened at Central High School yesterday afternoon.

According to Detective Commander Matt DuRose, police were summoned to the school via a 911 call Tuesday after an altercation between principal Steve Byrne and a 16-year-old female student. DuRose says both individuals had suffered slight injuries. An ambulance was summoned to treat Byrne, but he did not need hospitalization.

DuRose says the incident happened in a hallway on the schools third floor. The student had been asked to leave the building, but had refused. According to DuRose, there was some sort of altercation between the student and Byrne. By the time police arrived, the two had been separated.

No citations have been issued and the student was released to her mother.

DuRose says they’re continuing to interview witnesses to re-construct the chronology of the incident. More information could be released later this week.
