31 Years On Our Way To Forever

Aug 20, 2014 -- 5:32am

31 years go today was the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE.  As any married person can tell you...the day you get married IS the BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE Then you have MORE BEST DAYS OF YOUR LIFE as you celbrate LIFE.  For EXAMPLE...the days that your kids are born...and all of their birthdays and milestones like first dates and graduations and WEDDINGS.  But today WE CELEBRATE OUR FIRST...BEST DAY.  Today marks the beginning of year #32 for my Wife Anne and I.

Just to give you an idea how long 31 years is I have broken it down for you:

31                  Years

372                Months

1612              Weeks

11,331           Days

271,392         Hrs

16,315,920    Mins

978,955,200  Secs.

People say to me all the time "Anne must be a SAINT for being married and living with you for that long"  That may be true...but WHAT ABOUT ME?  Sure Anne has been married to me for 31 years...and that  can't be easy...BUT....SHE ISN'T WITH ME 24/7...I am with ME 24 hours a day 7 days a week...and trust me...being around ME EVERY minute of EVERY day is not always a treat for ME.  So next time you start bantering SAINTHOOD around consider ME.  But I DIGRESS!

When you get married all of your hopes and dreams are about so many things that you can't control...and for that matter would never even have guessed.  But you say: I think I want to spend the rest of my life with this person and away you go.  After 31 years of "Spending the rest of my life with this person"  I still feel that way. So I AM IN. I am officially "RE-UPPING" for another 31 years...and at this point I will leave open a space for Anne to decide to RE-UP...if she doesn't say that she wants out in the next sentence...I will automatically RE-UP her.....................                        ...........................                       .............................                 ...................time is running out Anne...........    if you want out you better say so  .........................                      ........................ ALRIGHT!  I OFFICIALLY HAVE LOCKED HER IN!

Waupaca Wisc? Who Knew?

Aug 18, 2014 -- 6:01am

Plans are made...then plans change and suddenly you find yourself in a place you've never been.  The original plan came together on Thursday night when it was decided that we would go to Waupaca Wisc. for a wake on Sunday and Funeral on Monday for the Mother of my wife's brother. But because of a pressing local situation we decided to go to Wisconson on Saturday and come back yesterday.

Verdell Sorenson was one of the sweetest people you could ever meet and when she passed away at the age of 96 on Wednesday afternoon we knew we had to go.  The Sorensons (Verdell and her Husband Grant) had been married for72 years...and we remember fondly visiting them over the last 25 years...including going to their 50th Anniversary party 22 years ago.  What we had never done tho was go INTO WAUPACA...the small town of 6000 that was just 7 miles from the family farm.

We found out over the weekend that Waupaca is a resort town...that many from Chicago call their summer home.  So yesterday afternoon while waiting for the wake...we made our way to the Two Harbors Bar and got a look at CLEAR LAKE...which by the way is ACTUALLY CLEAR.  You could see fish swimming in the water 3 or 4 feet down. The bottom is sandy...and other than times were the sand is churned up....the water is as clear as any I have seen.  The harbor bar had a pontoon moored to the dock with a live band playing rock and roll...30 or so pontoons docked and partying...100 people on the outside seating area having lunch and another 100 inside enjoying lunch as well.  It was quite the site.  There was a paddle wheel boat giving tours of the chain of lakes...and that might be a future vacation highlight.

I usually have little good to say about Wisconsin...so let's leave it like that.

Westwood On Lake Washington

Aug 14, 2014 -- 5:41am

We spent last evening at Westwood On Lake Washington having dinner and going for boat rides.  What a beautful night.  There were about 20 of us on the deck and we enjoyed a delicious dinner...and the weather couldn't have been nicer.  We launched the boats...and when we put one of them in...the lake was so calm that the boat floated off of the trailer and stayed right next to the dock.  My brother in law Rick drove the truck to the parking lot and I stayed with the boat...I didn't need to be there tho...It literally stayed right where it was.  It was a perfect night to be on the lake...even saw 5 really nice walleyes in one live well that a young guy and his wife had caught in 5 feet of water in about 2 hours. Gonna have to do that again soon.

Robin Williams

Aug 12, 2014 -- 5:36am

The death of Robin Williams yesterday was so sad...but not surprising.  It had been common knowledge that he had suffered from chemical dependency issues for quite some time and when he checked into a treatment facility in Minnesota in July of this year...the story that he hadn't relapsed but was just there for a "TuneUp" just didn't ring true.  It is hard for those of us who have never had dependency issues or suffered from depression to understand. How can you be such a huge star..loved by so many...have  all the money you will ever need...and still feel so worthless that you kill yourself? I think it shows that even tho you are famous when all is said and done you have to be able to look in the mirror and love your reflection.  Life just isn't easy and I guess you just hope that if someone you know is feeling depressed...that they are able to get the help that they need.

One of the best thing Robin Williams ever did was his first HBO Special...I saw it in the last couple of years ON DEMAND...and although it was filmed over 30 years ago it was still amazing to watch.  But for me the BEST work Robin ever did was when he played "The Jenie of the lamp" in "Aladdin" He was crazy and zany and funny and touching all wrapped into 1 character...and my kids loved it...and so did I.

Going To The Chapel

Aug 08, 2014 -- 5:44am

Our Daughter-in-law Rachel's brother Ryan is getting married tomorrow in the Hastings area and we are invited.  It's an outdoor wedding and an indoor reception and I am really looking forward to it.  Ryan is a pretty interesting young man...and someone I find to be VERY FUNNY...and his soon to be wife Diana is BEAUTIFUL.  A nice dinner and some dancing with my wife is in store.  We have the gift purchased...just need to wrap it and find something that fits to wear and we are good to go.

Vikings vs Raiders...TCF Bank Stadium tonight in a NO-HOLDS BARRED GAME TO THE DEATH...that might be an exageration...but it IS the PRESEASON OPENER...so that's exciting.  We will get a look at TEDDY BRIDGEWATER with the starting offense for at least a few plays so that should be exciting.  How's you like to be Vikings ACTUAL first overall draft pick AARON BARR (What?...oh) ANTHONY BARR...yea NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT HIM...but he may be a dominant player for the Vikings for years to come.  We will find out starting tonight...what the  game really means is...WE ARE CLOSE TO THE NFL REGULAR SEASON!!!!

The Best Concert EVER

Aug 04, 2014 -- 5:44am

I along with my wife Anne...were in attendance Saturday Night for the Paul McCartney concert at Target Field. It was the BEST CONCERT I HAVE EVER OR WILL EVER ATTEND.  After a 45 miute delay to allow the late arriving crowd to get wristbanded and sat on the field...McCartney came out wearing a Blue Jacket and played "8 Days A Week' a Beatles Favorite that hadn't been on his set list since 1964...followed by SAVE US...but when Paul sang CLOSE YOUR EYES AND I'll KISS YOU TOMORROW I'LL MISS YOU...I had tears in my eyes. I didn't realize how "BEATLES" ALL MY LOVIN IS...but it IS.  Here is the 39 song set list
