No A.C.? No Problem

Jul 29, 2014 -- 5:49am

It's late July in Minnesota...which means we should be running our A.C. units non-stop about now.  But this summer has been very different so far...not a lot of 70 degree days in June...and now cool days and even cooler nights in July.  When you check your electric bill after this month you should be nicely surprised.  Compare last year and this year and you might save $10 or more...not bad.  My question is this: If we are having 58 degrees for nightime lows in July...what will October be like?  December?  January...I shudder to think.

A Mission Of Mercy It Was

Jul 28, 2014 -- 5:44am

The Mission Of Mercy Dental Clinic in Mankato at Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato over the weekend was a huge suceess and a point of pride for everyone involved.  I made a visit both days to get some much needed work done and couldn't have been more impressed.  I have had Dental Insurance my entire adult life...but hadn't seen a dentist in over 20 years because frankly...I hate...hate...hate going to the dentist.

Over the 4th of July weekend I lost a filling on a front tooth and felt like the hole in my face was bigger than the opening in my mouth.  I saw a local dentist and had a thorough exam...and got the tooth fixed.  When I received the comprehensive insurance quote...I wasn't surprised....$13,000...of which insurance would cover about $3000. Not having an extra $10,000 laying around...I had to pick which procedures I could afford to do...and which were going to have to wait.  But then the Mission of Mercy came along and did a number of procedures for me...root canal...fillings...and a much needed cleaning.  I am on my way to dental health...and am so thankful for the care an concern showed by everyone involved.

People from every walk of life...every age...and every area of the state were involved as a patient or a caregiver.  So many people spoke of being in pain for months...and 1 procedure later...they were on their way.

Some dental procedures can actually by life changing...new front teeth could mean the difference between getting a job or not...it could mean a child doesn't get teased at school because their teeth are funny looking...or it could mean saving a tooth that was going to fall out. Every person involved should feel proud of the life changing work that they did this weekend.  See You Next Year?

Should be a nice weekend

Jul 25, 2014 -- 5:51am

If you are looking for something to do this weekend...the weather should cooperate.  Blues on Belgrade is Saturday and that will give you a chance to hear some fantastic music...enjoy a cold beverage and hang out with friends.  The Vikings are in town and will practice all weekend up on campus...so the Mall and stores should be busy this weekend.  Fishing hasn't been good lately...but I am hoping things will pick up this weekend.  If anybody knows where the crappies are biting...drop me a line.
In case you are wondering...77 days 13 hrs and 30 mins til the WILD DROP THE PUCK.

Where Did Last Night Come From?

Jul 23, 2014 -- 5:50am

So yesterday afternoon wasn't as bad as Monday afternoon...but it was still awfully warm and humid.  But sometime between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. the humidity started to disappear and boy what a beautiful night it was.  Clear skies and cool breezes...and falling temps.  I got up this morning and when I stepped outside to come to the KTOE Studios it was 60 degrees...could've slept with the windows OPEN.  If tonight is a recap of last night...there is a boat in my driveway...that is gonna be in Lake  Washington or Madison Lake.

IT's Gonna Get July Hot

Jul 21, 2014 -- 5:41am

So last week was NOT July weather...and today WILL BE.  Heat index warnings of over 100 degrees.  Many people don't think that's a bad thing...but for those of us who do physical labor...either outdoors or in non-Air Conditioned buildings...it is not a good thing.  Gonna sweat today...glad I wore a white shirt.  It's important to drink water thru-out the day...whether you feel thirsty or not.  Make sure and have the kids drink a  bunch today as well...and don't fortget the pets.  Sounds like tomorrow and the rest of the week won't be so bad...but still will feel like July in Minnesota.

Hoping For Something Different This Year

Jul 11, 2014 -- 5:54am

I am hoping for a DRY PARADE tomorrow following last years washout.  As you may recall the skies opened up just as the parade began last year...meaning NO OPEN convertible...meaning No Miss Mankato on the back seat...meaning someone needed to WALK...meaning DON DROVE...meaning DAN WALKED...meaning wet clothes...meaning wet UNDERWEAR...meaning wet TOOTSIE ROLLS...meaning smaller crowds...meaning....well you get the point.

We want SUNSHINE and RAINBOWS...and BUTTERFLIES.  I'm DRIVING...if it rains...I will be driving the KIA...if not...the convertible.
