A 50-50 Night For Mankato Football Teams Last Night

Oct 22, 2014 -- 5:48am

Mankato East scored 16 fourth quarter points last night to come from behind and beat Dassel-Cokato 22-12 to "Survive and Advance" in the Section 2 AAAA Quarterfinals.  Mankato Loyola on the other hand couldn't get a road win at Springfield and ended their season 3-6.  The 17 Seniors at Loyola tasted victory for the first time in their High School Careers this season after going winless the previous 2 seasons.  Mankato West had a bye and plays Saturday.

Half of the High School Football players in the State ended their seasons last night....a tough pill to swallow...especially if you are a Senior.  But this time of year there is no time for tears or fear of losing...the only thing you worry about is trying to "Survive and Advance"

Survive and Advance Fall 2014

Oct 21, 2014 -- 5:26am

The Football Playoffs begin tonight for many teams...some don't play til Saturday because of an opening round bye...others didn't advance to the playoffs. Mankato East hosts Dassel Cokato at 7:00 p.m. in their first home playoff game in many years.  The Cougars are riding a 3 game winning streak and finished the season at 4-4. A dramatic improvement from last season.  East should roll in this one...but all that matters is that they "SURVIVE AND ADVANCE"

Mankato Loyola visits Springfield at 7:00 p.m...the Crusaders went 3-5 and were disapointed to receive the #6 seed...but the season can be a huge success with a win tonight.  Volleyball playoffs began last night with play-in games...Soccer state is this week. Cross Country State is right around the corner...some kids High School Careers come to an end over the next few days...unless they "SURVIVE AND ADVANCE"

Gophers and Vikings and Mavericks...what a weekend

Oct 20, 2014 -- 5:53am

The weekend of sports was awesome with College Hockey...College Football and the NFL and NHL Hockey all available for your viewing pleasure.  Mavs won friday night in both Football and Hockey with DVR's you could see the football game at Blakeslee and come home and watch the Mav's win at UMD...then later you could watch the replay of The Wild out west.  Saturday afternoon you could watch the Gophers dominate the second half and come from behind to upend the Boilermakers and catch the rematch of the Mavs/Bulldogs either live at Verizon or see my mug on TV Saturday night. Sunday the Vikings defense was pretty solid til the final drive...and Teddy Bridgewater struggled to stay standing and complete meaningful passes as the team lost at Buffalo. The Wild played another low scoring game out west scoring just 1 goal on 41 shots and lost a 2-1 game.  The Wild are playing pretty well early on and when the offense comes around...WATCH OUT. Not a bad weekend!

I'm a Bachelor this weekend

Oct 17, 2014 -- 5:27am

My wife Anne will be out of town this weekend taking care of her Brother who is receiving treatment for Cancer in Rochester...so I am a Bachelor for the next 4 days.  I have some serious plans to PARTY.  Today: I work and then plan on prepping for the Mavs vs the Bulldogs by watching the two teams on Fox Sports North. Tomorrow I have to work at the school as we are going to be painting "The Tunnel" between St Peter and Pauls and Fitzgerald Middle School.  Then it's downtown for the first home hockey game of the year at Verizon Wireless Center.  Sunday it's ALL FOOTBALL ALL THE TIME.  Monday I have to work and Anne will be home Monday Night.

Now that I think of it...my weekend would be exactly the same one way or another.  Except when I point out something that I see on TV there will be no one there to agree with my AWESOME ANALYSIS.

Regular Season Football Comes to an End Tonight

Oct 15, 2014 -- 5:54am

It's MEA Wednesday...which means the final regular season football games are tonight.  Conference title will be decided...and the winners will be the Champs of all time.  Next season District Football scheduling will begin.  So if your school wins a title tonight...congrats...you are the Forever Conference Champions.  Also I am aware that it isn't MEA anymore.  But sorry...it was MEA when I was in High School 34 years ago...and it will be MEA for a long time to come.  It's like all tissues aren't kleenex...but that's what we call them.  So get over it.

The Wild DOMINATED

Oct 10, 2014 -- 5:51am

Watched the Maverick football team as a warm-up to face-off last night.  The Mavericks had the game in hand by the time the puck dropped at the Xcel Center last night.  Zach Parise and Ryan Suter set the tone as the WILD TOOK APART THE AVS.  5-0 doesn't do the game justice....the game seemed like it was 10-0 after the most amazing 2nd period this team has played in a long time.  The AV's are know for their team speed and they looked like the were old and slow compared to the WILD.  It will be interesting to see the rematch Saturday in Colorado. I can't imagine that The WILD will push around Colorado the way they did last night...but maybe the AV's players have been "Chillin" in Colorado and might be very "Relaxed" if you know what I mean. Let's have the Wild win the game...then they can take the AV's to Taco Bell after the game.  Denver is "The mile HIGH city" you know.
