That was a WEEKEND

Dec 15, 2014 -- 5:44am

The Weekend started with a Maverick Hockey Win...and Ended with a Timberwolves loss to the Lakers...but in between???? WOW!  The Maverick Football team exploded for 6 Td's in their first 6 possesions destroying Concord WV in the NCAA DIV II Semi's.  During the game news spread that the Maverick Hockey Team was sick...not a player or two...but pretty much the entire TEAM.  Game Cancelled...refunds will be sent to ticket holders...Chrismas break begins early.  Then The Vikings looked outstanding against Detroit until Teddy Bridgewater stopped stepping into his throws and threw 2 interceptions that led to 10 pts.  The Vikings defense was great. I am more and more confidant that this coaching staff will win.

An Ugly Hit and a Beautful win.

Dec 10, 2014 -- 7:26am

Keith Ballard was crushed head first into the boards last night by a NY Islander and appeared to suffer seizures on the ice after the hit. The Wild responded as a good team would...by fighting the perpetrator (and losing badly I might add) and coming from behind to win. a 4 goal third period gave them a 5-4 win.  Ballard was hospitalized and no word so far on his condition...but he has a history of concussions and this certainly couldn't have helped.  The team needed the win and it was nice to see them respond...but boy they didn't skate for the first half of the game.

Gopher Basketball

Dec 09, 2014 -- 5:44am

I watched most of the first half of the Gopher basketball game last night...and they looked pretty good.  North Dakota clearly is a hockey school and the Gophers should beat the tar out of The Flittertails or whatever we are supposed to call the Fighting Sioux.  But it was great to see the team blow the doors off of an inferior opponent. Mo Walker is a force like the Gophers haven't had in I don't know how long. He started the game 6 of 7 from the floor as they turned a 10-7 defecit into a 16 point first half lead. Deandre Mathieu scored 3 straight possesions to break the game open.  I am hopeful that after a solid Big Ten Campaign the Gophers can get a decent seed in the NCAA tournament and win a couple games.  Richard Pitino won't be coaching this team 10 years from now...he will have moved on by that time... but in the mean time...let's win some tournament games.

JERRY! JERRY! JERRY!

Dec 08, 2014 -- 5:36am

WE ARE GOING "BOWL"ING ON NEW YEARS DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was born on June 3rd 1962...153 days after the Gophers played in a Jan 1st Bowl Game.  Jerry Kill in his 4th season has The Gophers in the Citrus Bowl at Noon in Florida on New Years Day.  I couldn't be more excited. I would love to win the game...and I have no idea whether we will or not...but it doesn't matter.  WE ARE PLAYING ON NEW YEARS DAY!

Stalling out the clock

Dec 02, 2014 -- 6:04am

The NFL is trying to stall out the clock on the Adrian Peterson situation and that will continue today.  Peterson is in New York to appeal the decision in front of a man hired by the NFL...to the tune of MILLIONS of DOLLARS A YEAR.  There are 4 games left on the season...and if Peterson wins the appeal today...which he won't...he probably would not be ready to play on Sunday.  The best guess is he would be ready for the final 3 games...but here is the rub...the appeal won't be decided today.  It might take a week or more to decide...and the NFL is just fine with that.  From the beginning...they wanted AP to go away...and that will continue today.

What A Weekend

Dec 01, 2014 -- 5:33am

For many people the snowstorm Wednesday was the beginnng of the Holiday Weekend and what a weekend it was. Thanksgiving was great with the whole family together...I should say Immediate family...we had 43 total at my sister In Laws house.  Friday the Parade and lighting ceremony at Sibley Park for the "Kiwanis Holiday Lights" was a huge success.  Beautiful weather and a great crowd. Saturday I tried to get the Mavs and Gophers on my phone at East as I announced the Boys Basketball game. I was somewhat successful...and we got the Mavs a win...althought the Gophers fell short.  Then yesterday the Vikings dominated Carolina so my picking record stays in tact.  Overall a great couple of days.  Loyola is off today...so It's a day to get the school ready for the first basketball game of the year. Starts a busy time for me at the school.
