Both suspected SuperAmerica robbery suspects in custody

Mankato Police have arrested two men in connection with the armed robbery of a Riverfront Drive gas station on Friday.

Left, 19-year-old Noah Barnes of St. Paul. Right, 21-year-old Deshon Johnson Jr. of Mankato.

Detectives say 21-year-old Deshon Johnson Jr. of Mankato was shown on surveillance video, armed with a shotgun later found nearby, and 19-year-old Noah Barnes of St. Paul using a knife to steal money, cigarettes and cigars from the SuperAmerica clerk.

The criminal complaint shows that both men pointed their weapons at the clerk before leaving, saying that if she called the police they would kill her.

A tip led investigators to Barnes and he was arrested at the Cherry Street Ramp bus shelter. Police say both men admitted to committing the robbery.

Barnes is facing preliminary charges of aggravated robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and marijuana possession. Johnson’s preliminary charges include aggravated robbery, illegal possession of a gun and ammunition, assault with a dangerous weapon, making threats of violence.

MPD says the shotgun had been stolen from a pickup parked in a downtown ramp.

The investigation into the incident continues.
